Unconventional Jobs

There’s a popular misconception out there that work is boring, a 9 to 6 grind done only to pay the bills, have a good night out and get the latest iPod. Not so

Did you ever wonder who…

  • Writes the jokes in Christmas crackers?
  • Tests waterslides in holiday resorts?
  • Delivers mail to tribes in the Amazon?
  • Farms oysters in middle of the ocean?
  • Blows stuff up?
  • Baby-sits ostriches?
  • Tames lions?
  • Gets rid of woodpeckers?
  • Draws ski resort maps?
  • Teaches people how to jump out of planes?
  • Caretakes Paradise Island?
  • Tests luxury beds?
  • Makes the anti-venom for poisonous snakebites?
  • Breaks into banks to test the security?

Think out of the box.

Weird and wonderful jobs do exist. They aren’t your traditional career choices, but somebody out there does all of these things, gets paid for it, and enjoys life.  If you look hard enough, you’ll find them everywhere. Maybe you’d enjoy being a coconut safety inspector in the Caribbean, a snake charmer in Morocco or a bush pilot in Australia. But what qualifies a job as weird and wonderful? Do you have to be an eccentric person to have a bizarre job? Of course not. Every job exists for a reason, usually to fill a niche. How would we have honey without the eccentric beekeeper? Who would make anti-venom without the snake milker? Who’s going to test ski runs? Create Lego art? Design Ikea furniture? Test pet food? Butcher meat? Farm oysters? Or organize our useless clutter? Wacky, odd, unexpected, wild, crazy, unconventional, strange, or just plain weird jobs and careers help make our world go round.

Go find that job

Interested? You may wonder how you can find a job like this? Hobbies are a good place to start. What do you do for fun? Stuff animals, act like Elvis, or make model cars? If you enjoy it, someone out there works in that field and is making money off your hobby. Maybe they are developing Frisbee golf discs, testing mountaineering equipment, trying condoms, developing fragrances, or saving sea turtles – and they are getting paid good wages. The big question is how to decide on an interesting and different career for you? Think of things you’re interested in or good at and there is a job that relates – no matter how weird and off the beaten track the job might be:
  • History Buff – Crusade Battlefield Re-enactor
  • Love animals -Elephant Trainer
  • Into dead people – Embalmer
  • Friendly and Reliable – Doorman
  • Like to stare danger in the face – Stunt man/woman
  • Can see into the future – Palm Reader or Psychic
  • Into babies – Baby Proofer
  • Nice hands – Body Part Model
  • Clever with words – Greeting Card Writer
  • Pyromaniac – Fireworks Salesman
  • Sleigh rider – Snowmobile Guide
  • Eye for houses – Interior Designer
  • Good with fabrics – Seamstress
  • Bending Metal – Blacksmith
  • Great Outdoors – Backpacking Instructor
None of these jobs may have been on your original list, but maybe it’s time to think out of the box. There is a whole world of jobs that might appeal to you. And who knows where your next office will be.  A dance studio in New York? A circus in Moscow? A street-side café in Paris?  Hiding in a barrel? High in the air? Climbing a mountain? In a lab? In front of a crystal ball? On a farm?  Deep in the jungle?

The choice is yours.

Go for it……..
